Here it is - one practical souvenir. The one that says it all.
It says that this is Croatia. Good or bad, but it's ours.
It's beautiful. It's hospitable. Nobody can deny that nor take that away from us.
Some people share their last bite with their guests.
We - Croats, we give that last bite to our guests.
We're famous for our ties. But what we should've been famous for is the kitchen cloth.
Because, we cover with it. We wrap with it.
We clean with it. We eat on it.
We give it to each others.
With it, we take our food for blessing.
Not so long ago, women were knitting them. Today, they still iron them.
And they fold them. Count them. Boast about them.
They tell each other how many of them they have.
That is all "written" on this kitchen cloth, so this is also one nice "postcard" from Croatia.
You carry it easily, yet it brings a lot. There's nothing written on it, yet it says a lot.
